Denver Job Market Update: Company Relocations, Lost Opportunities, and AI Growth
The Colorado Chamber recently published a map tracking company relocations and expansions outside of Colorado. It’s a useful snapshot of something many of us have been noticing in the Denver job market. Movement is happening, but it isn’t evenly distributed.
The full report is worth a look if you want to see the broader trends: https://cochamber.com/wp-content/uploads/Lost-Opportunities-Colorado.pdf
Companies Leaving Colorado and Missed Expansion Opportunities
Some of the larger exits, like TIAA moving out of state, were very visible. It also brings up the smaller ones we lost, like Gymshark, that didn’t get the same level of attention. When companies choose to expand somewhere else, it doesn’t always show up as a headline, but it does change how many opportunities are being created locally across Colorado and the Denver metro area.
AI Companies Growing in Denver and Boulder
At the same time, there’s another side of the market that’s starting to build. I’m seeing more AI companies growing across Denver and Boulder, and some are hiring at a pretty fast pace. It’s a different kind of growth, and it’s still taking shape, but it’s already influencing where new opportunities are starting to show up in the local job market.
What This Means for the Denver Job Market
What makes this moment interesting is that both things are happening at once. There’s movement out, and there’s growth coming in. Some established companies are leaving Colorado or expanding elsewhere, while newer companies are entering and building in Denver.
That mix changes the market in ways that aren’t always obvious at first. It affects what kinds of roles are available, where hiring is concentrated, and how opportunity shows up over time.
A Changing Market
The Denver job market isn’t moving in a straight line. Where jobs are leaving and where they’re being created matters more than it seems.
It will be interesting to see how this evolves over the next few years.
