How New York City Sparked My Career Counseling Path

The Moment That Stayed With Me

On a recent trip back to New York City, I caught a perfect Manhattanhenge sunset. It stopped me in my tracks and reminded me how much the city shaped who I became, both personally and professionally. I did not know it at the time, but working in New York in my twenties planted the early spark that would eventually led me to become a Career Counselor.

Being Surrounded by Big Dreams

I was surrounded by people who had clear, ambitious visions for their lives. Some wanted to make it on Broadway. Others were focused on advertising, fashion, or the United Nations. Hearing people talk about what they wanted, and watching some of those seemingly impossible dreams come true, made a lasting impression on me. It showed me what it looks like to commit to something fully and move toward a future that feels aligned.

Carrying New York Back to Denver

When I returned to Denver and began working in Human Resources in the corporate world, I carried that piece of New York with me. I realized everyone deserves to have a dream they are working toward, even if it looks different from what others might expect. That realization led me to earn my Master’s in Counseling Psychology with a focus on Career Counseling. I wanted to help people find clarity in their own path and understand the factors that guide them toward meaningful work.

The Start of a Career Built on Clarity

More than a decade later, I am still doing this work. I help people navigate their careers with intention, understand what matters most to them, and move toward roles and environments that fit. New York gave me the initial spark, and I have been helping others find their version of that clarity ever since.

If you’re in a moment of reassessing your direction, let’s find what that looks like for you. You can connect with me here.
